To assist candidates in achieving this level of knowledge, the Online MCQ Bridging Course contains several resources, including topic overviews, videos of presentations given by HEAL tutors, videos of expert tutorials, and webinar recordings presented by HEAL tutors.
The design and content of the course were reviewed and agreed to by an MCQ Online Reference Group, and all resources have been reviewed by the HEAL Medical Advisor to determine the appropriateness of the content. Please note that a formal editing process has not been undertaken (unless otherwise specified). Where required, content experts undertook an additional review, which is acknowledged in the relevant content.
Each topic overview has been written by a medical graduate from the medical schools of The University of Melbourne, Monash University or Deakin University. The list of topics was developed by the staff of HEAL, drawing on the information provided by the AMC in the publication AMC Handbook of Clinical Assessment 2007, Australian Medical Council (ISBN 978-1-875440-38-2), and more recently the Multiple Choice Question Examination Specifications – May 2023. The Australian Curriculum Framework for Junior Doctors (ACFJD) was originally considered, and more recently, the National Framework for PGY1’s (2024) was also considered. The graduates then selected the topic(s) on which they wished to write an overview, and the HEAL Medical Advisor approved each written overview as providing appropriate information for the AMC examination. If required, content experts undertook an additional review, which is acknowledged in the relevant topic overviews.
The overviews were comprehensively reviewed by the Medical Advisor in 2020 and 2021 to ensure their contents remain appropriate.
These are videos of presentations that were written and presented by HEAL tutors who teach in the face-to-face MCQ bridging courses at HEAL. To the best of our knowledge, the content of these tutorials remains appropriate for preparation for the AMC MCQ examination.
Expert online tutorials were generously provided by medical practitioners who are specialists in their field. To the best of our knowledge, the content of these tutorials remains appropriate for the AMC examination.
Over many years, HEAL tutors have presented webinars covering examples of the types of MCQ questions asked in the AMC examination. These are not “recalls”, as the AMC has specifically warned that questions change in each examination, and “recalls” are often inaccurate and misleading. Rather, they present and discuss MCQs that are considered exemplars by successful recent AMC graduates.
Some of the older webinars are included in this online course. More recent webinars are available in IMG Connect and can be accessed from the HEAL website. To the best of our knowledge, the content of these webinars remain appropriate for the AMC examination.
